First success in stimulated emission of terahertz radiation from graphene a new material First big step ahead to a new principle terahertz laser

Research Group of Prof. Taiichi Otsuji at RIEC, Tohoku University, Japan in collaboration with Research Group of Prof. Victor Ryzhii at University of Aizu, Japan has succeeded in stimulated emission of terahertz radiation at room temperature in picosecond duration from graphene, a monolayer carbon-atomic honeycomb crystal lattice, under optical pumping. This result will be the first big step ahead to a new principle terahertz laser. The result obtained for the first time was presented at the European Conference on Lasers and Electrooptics (CLEO-Europe) on June 19th in Munich, Germany.
