Mr. Mitsuki Watanabe of the Ultra-Wideband Signal Processing Laboratory received the Best Student Paper Award at the TeraTech 2023 (the 10th International Symposium on Terahertz-Related Devices and Technologies), held in Aizuwakamatsu, from September 4 to 8, 2023. The symposium was organized as a forum for the presentation and discussion of cutting-edge terahertz-related devices and technologies, and brought together 90 leading scientists, including 40 participants from overseas.This prize was awarded to the presenter of the best paper among 17 student papers. The technical program committee (TPC) was responsible for pee-review and evaluation. The TPC chairperson recognized the best student paper; only 1 student received this award. The winning paper is entitled “Optical-to-MMW/THz Carrier Frequency Down-Conversion by UTC-PD-Integrated HEMT: Optimization of UTC-PD Mesa Shape and Size” authored by Mitsuki Watanabe, Dai Nakajima, Tsung-Tse Lin, Kazuki Nishimura, Tetsuya Suemitsu, Taiichi Otsuji, and Akira Satou.
