Tohoku University’s “Design Technology of CMOS/Spintronics-Hybrid AI Processor” Wins Next-Generation Category Award at CEATEC 2024-Tohoku University’s Original Technology Accelerates the World’s First Social Implementation of Edge AI Semiconductors-(October 10, 2024)
The result of NEDO’s Industry-Academia Collaborative Project, called “Design Technology of CMOS/Spintronics-Hybrid AI Semiconductor” led by Professor Takahiro Hanyu (New Paradigm VLSI System Laboratory, Research Institute of Electrical Communication (RIEC), Tohoku University) has been awarded the Next-Generation Category Award at CEATEC AWARD 2024. NEDO is currently promoting “Research and Development for Efficient Design and Demonstration of AI Processing Semiconductors.” In this project, “Research and Development on Efficient Design of AI Processing Semiconductors Using CMOS/Spintronics-Hybrid Technology and its Application Technology” (Representative Proposer: Tohoku University (RIEC and CIES) and Co-Proposer: NEC Corp. and AISIN Corp.) has been currently promoted by NEDO.
The research result of the project “CMOS/Spintronics-Hybrid AI Semiconductor,” is an achievement that accelerates the social implementation of AI semiconductors that operate in the edge applications and achieves more than 10 times power efficiency (less than one-tenth of power consumption) compared to the conventional technology, and was highly evaluated for its high innovation.
